光の庭・うつろいの四季
光と翳に満たされた「光の庭」。そこを吹き抜ける風。
降り積もることなく落ちる雪や雨のシルエット。
そうした自然の変化の中で、人々は日々の行動の軌跡を変えながら空間を横断していく。
そんな空間のイメージがこの計画の原点であった。
厳しい自然環境ゆえの自然の多彩な表情の変化を空間の多様な変化に投影し、社会生活の活性化を試みようとした。
地上から高く持ち上げられた住居棟は、福祉サービスや文化交流といった社会生活のための空間をプロテクトする「屋根」であり、地域に開かれた「傘」である。
平板な住居棟を垂直に貫通する多数のヴォイドによって生み出される「光の庭」の中で、地上レベルでの様々な活動は、日々刻々その表情を変化させ、自然のうつろいと対峙する。同時にそれらのヴォイドは、住居棟の各住戸への「光のみち」であり、「風のみち」でもある。
各住戸は、多様な規模と空間構成をとり、住まい方の様々な個性が引き出されるような意図のもとに計画されている。そうした結果生み出された垂直のヴォイドは、テクニカルなストラクチャーとは対照的な意味で、この建築のもうひとつの「ストラクチャー」である。

Gardens of Light,Seasonal Change
Gardens of light full of brightness and shadows. A gentle breeze.

The image of such a space is the starting point of our project. We attempt to animate the social life by projecting the diverse appearance of nature, caused by the harshness of the environment, into the space of the building.
The residential part of the building is elevated and serves as a protective roof for social activities, cultural exchange and welfare services which take place on the ground level. There, in the gardens of light created by a number of vertical voids piercing the building, the infinite variety of natural patterns meets the diversity of human activities. Those voids also provide an abundance of light and air to the residential areas. Each apartment in the building is designed with a variety of forms and spatial structures so that they can bring out the individuality of the life-style of every inhabitant. As a result of that concept, the vertical voids represent a life-style determining factor rather than a structural element.
