Creative Reconstruction: Vision Formulation 2, 3rd Session

At the Creative Reconstruction: Vision Formulation 2, 3rd Session, Yumi Song, the contemporary artist, director and writer, was invited and gave a talk titled, “We put a name to this scenery – About Arafudo Art Annual”.
She spoke about the “Oyasumi Tree (Good night Tree)” project that started right after the Great East Japan Earthquake, and about the art festival “Arafudo Art Annual”, which was held in Tsuchiyu Onsen-machi in Fukushima prefecture. While planning for the “Arafudo Art Annual”, she felt it essential to carefully look into the meaning of the word “Fukushima”, and she wanted the festival to be an opportunity for the local people and visitors to carefully and actively cultivate an eye to look at the things that are around them. She lectured on the role of art and how to relate with local areas. (Akagi)

Creative Reconstruction: Vision Formulation 2, 2nd Session

At the Creative Reconstruction: Vision Formulation 2, 2nd Session, Tatsuo Miyajima, the contemporary artist, was invited and he gave a talk titled, “Art in You”.
He spoke about the thinker Rabindranath Tagore’s concept that “Beauty is realized only through human beings”, about Miyajima’s “Kaki Tree Project”, which he started in 1995, and about imagination and creativity. He stated that art inherently exists in the hearts of all human beings, and that we are all “artists” as well as being “viewers” at the same time. The talk, “Art in You – Art is inside you” was very striking. (Akagi)

Creative Reconstruction: Vision Formulation 2, 1st Session

At the Creative Reconstruction: Vision Formulation 2, 1st Session, Taro Igarashi, the architectural historian and critic, was invited and he gave a talk titled, “Exhibition and Projects Planned After 3.11”.
He spoke about how the architectural remains of the earthquake should be dealt with, what sort of architecture stays in human memory for a long time, and about “Relational Architecture”, which is not just about constructing a building but about the designing of relationships as well. (Akagi)

Taikan Taiken (Feel & Experience) Lab: Princess Kubo and Her Secret Friend Workshop

On 2/22 (Sun), “Princess Kubo and Her Secret Friend Workshop” was held at Iwaki Alios. The smiling faces of the children absorbed in making the dolls with some help from the staff of “Asobi (Play) Workshop” and parents of the children were so memorable. The final show was very lively as the children held the dolls they made and danced and sang with Princess Kubo. (Art & Design, MC 1st year, Takahashi)

Hybrid Art Assignments: Light Art Exhibition at Mishima-machi

Between 1/13 (Tue) and 1/23 (Fri), the Hybrid Art Assignment Class Team held an LED Light Art Exhibition in Mishima-machi in the Oku-Aizu region of Fukushima prefecture. The exhibition was held as part of the Ark in the Woods Art Project, and in collaboration with an NPO that developed the low head hydro-power, the electrical power for the entire artwork was generated by renewable energy. It was an exhibition that was made possible with the support from the local residents of Mishima-machi and the government given to the students’ production of the artworks. (Iida)

Information Communication Team: Notice of “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” screening in Hiroshima

On Feb. 1 (Sunday), there will be a screening of “Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” in the city of Hiroshima. The students of the Information Communication Team have been preparing for this project since last year, and they will co-host the event with “OPERATION Tsunagari”, a student volunteer group at the University of Hiroshima. The manga artist, Daisuke Nishijima, who lives in Hiroshima, has also been invited to take part. After the screening, a talk session with Nishijima, Operation Tsunagari and the student directors of“Iwaki Note (FUKUSHIMA VOICE)” is being planned. Under the theme, “HELLO after 3.11”, they will talk about, from their individual points of view, the uncanny links and new ties that have formed since the earthquake. A simple workshop with the participants is also being planned. Please come and take part. (Iida)
