A workshop entitled “Let’s Print with our Family!!” was held at The Museum of Modern Art, Ibaraki, on Saturday April 27.
Participants were asked to think of a symbol to represent their family, and they printed it onto T-shirts using silkscreen printing. We rarely have such an opportunity to cooperate with our family to create an object, and the participants all appeared to enjoy themselves very much.
At the end of the workshop, the families put on their matching T-shirts and took photos to remember the experience. We hope this can be a great conversation starter for families to discuss with each other. (Akagi)

Ingo Gunther Exhibition “RE-Nature”
The exhibition from Ingo Gunther, “RE-Nature,” is currently underway, and displays works related to Mr. Gunther’s project to turn the concrete block walls on Japan’s coastlines into manmade islands. He is strongly committed to bringing back a more natural appearance and proposes ideas such as turning Tetrapods green, as well as displaying works from deep sea photography in Japan’s oceans. We can also witness the way he aims to lead this problem to a solution from an artist’s viewpoint. We hope everyone will come and see the exhibition. (Hashimoto)

Meeting with people associated with Fukushima
We were lucky to receive visits from four people to the University of Tsukuba to speak about the activities they have been conducting to support Fukushima Prefecture through art. They were Megumi Kobayashi from the Fukushima Museum, artist Hikari Fujishiro, Shinya Suwa from the Fukushima Prefecture Cultural Promotion Department, and Yasunao Kawanobe from the Fukushima Museum. They also gave us advice about CR project activities for the future. It was an extremely valuable experience and we appreciated hearing from them. (Kataoka)

REPORT: Symposium on Disaster Prevention and Recovery of Japan
The CR Project and the activities it engenders were presented during the Symposium on Disaster Prevention and Recovery of Japan: Contribution of Knowledge, Creation of Living Spaces Safe and Secured — Rokko Symposium on Disaster Recovery (Kamisu Hiraizumi Community Center; October 14, 2012). The forum was widely attended by roughly 100 citizens and researchers. When guests inquired about the workshop and showed interest in our support of the program we realized how high the concern of individuals outside the university was.
Moreover, prior to that day, we had a chance to introduce the project’s education ideas and plans during seminars, and as with the symposium, attendees expressed curiosity regarding the methods we incorporated to foster the classes and their outputs.
Another conference is scheduled for November 25, 2012 (Sunday) in Kenpoku during which Pr. Osaka will take the rostrum. We hope to see you there. [Yamamoto]
